🎹 We are delighted to celebrate eleven-year-old pianist Mirei Kuroyanagi from Japan. Having shared her musical journey with the London Young Musician season after season, Mirei’s exceptional achievements over the past year have culminated in the prestigious titles of Pianist of the Year and World Top 50 Musician – No. 1 for 2025–2026.

You were awarded the prestigious title of World Top 50 Musician – No. 1 in recognition of your outstanding achievements in London Young Musician competitions over the past year. What does this honour mean to you, and as you reflect on the past year, what stands out as the most memorable part of your musical journey?
Mirei Kuroyanagi:
"I am truly honored and proud to receive the World Top 50 Musician No.1 award from the London Young Musician competitions.
Over the past year, I had the opportunity to study many different pieces of music and discover the unique beauty and emotions in each one. Some pieces were very challenging, but every experience helped me grow as a musician.
This award encourages me to continue learning and improving so that I can share music that touches people’s hearts."

Could you tell us a bit about yourself, your music training journey, your goals for the future in music, and what do you enjoy in your free time?
Mirei Kuroyanagi:
"I am a fifth-grade elementary school student from Japan, and I also work as a kids’ model.
I love music because it allows me to connect with people from all over the world. In the future, I would like to explore many different styles of music, not only classical, and continue growing as a musician.
My dream is to become a pianist and a model who can inspire people and bring smiles through my performances."

What did a typical day of practice look like for you, and in what ways did your family support your musical journey? How do you manage your time between training and schoolwork?
Mirei Kuroyanagi:
"Besides piano, I enjoy many other activities, including cheer dance, dance, chorus, tennis, swimming, and English lessons, while attending elementary school.
My days are very busy, but I enjoy everything I do, so every day feels exciting and fulfilling.
My family always respects my feelings and supports me in every way. I try to use my time wisely so that I can balance schoolwork and music practice."

Would you like to share your experience of participating in the London Young Musician competitions, and are there any individuals you’d like to thank?
Mirei Kuroyanagi:
"I have participated in many competitions in Japan and around the world, but the London Young Musician competition is my favorite.
I always enjoy not only performing but also taking part in the events and listening to talented musicians from many different countries.
The judges’ comments are always thoughtful and encouraging, and they have helped me improve so much.
I would like to sincerely thank the organizers, my teachers, my family, and everyone who has supported me on this journey."

Is there anything else you would like to say to musicians and music enthusiasts around the world?
Mirei Kuroyanagi:
"I believe music has the power to connect people beyond language and culture.
I hope to continue meeting wonderful musicians and music lovers from all over the world through music.
No matter how difficult the journey may be, I hope everyone will keep enjoying music and never stop believing in their dreams."
