Belgian composer Kris De Ruysscher has been awarded the Platinum Prize in Innovative Writing, Chamber Music, Orchestra, and Original Composition at the Debussy International Music Competition 2025 Season 4 for his works Les cinq arbres sacrés de Kiso, Wreath, Ren, and Ad Infinitum. He has also received the Debussy Excellent Creativity Special Award in recognition of his exceptional innovation and originality in composition.
Reflecting on the results, Kris expressed his appreciation:
"Hello. My name is Kris De Ruysscher. When I was asked by WOMCO to talk about my experiences with this year's Debussy International Music Competition 2025, I was happy to do so. To my great surprise and enormous pleasure, I received four platinum awards this year. I was also and I am also extremely pleased to have received the Debussy excellent creativity special award for my composition Les cinq arbres sacrés de Kiso, the five sacred trees of Kiso, which is a contemporary piece of music for flute, bass clarinet, violin, viola and cello. This is micro tonal music, so not obvious music. And I was pleased and pleasantly surprised that the jury took that into consideration in awarding me that prize. So to all at WOMCO and at the Debussy International Music Competition, thank you for organizing this and until we meet again."
